I hear you! If you're unlucky with an install or configuration, then
trudging up the Linux learning curve can use up a lot of time. These
days I no longer spend much time just fooling around or RTFM for fun,
but instead just learn what I need to solve any problems with the
particular applications I want to run.

Of course, I'm not asserting that "I have a life" because that brings
to mind the old "he doth protest too much" observation. It just seems
that fooling around with computers no longer gives me much joy. In
fact, at times I worry that I might eventually change from being a
"computer hobbyist" into being a "turn-key user". The
horror! The
horror, eh?

...At times, that really does seem a danger. Then, I go and do
something silly like performing a CPU/RAM/motherboard upgrade myself.

Thanks. I see that GoldED+ is the only version being actively
distributed and supported on the World Wide Wait. Who knows, maybe
I'll get lucky and it will go smoothly. 'Course I also have to settle
on a tosser/scanner. I'd automatically go with Maximus' Squish
tosser, but it is only distributed as source code. Meanwhile, after
over four years of using Linux, I'm only now wanting a few
applications that I'll need to compile myself. Unfortunately, so far
the "make" utility seems best at making lists of error messages.

Hmmmmmmmmm. I'm not sure if this message had any of that obligatory
MooseChat humor or silliness. I think I may have come close with the
"I may have a life" stuff, tho. Still, maybe I should have thrown in
a few puns, eh? I wish I had the knack of writing punishing prose.

Yours in the way of the Moose, ...Steve
