G'morning Douglas, 

 DC> We here had a strange 1st day of the year.
 DC> it felt like an april (spring) day 45- 50 deg f 10c?

And here ... given much rain during the week,  we travelled 120ks 
north to Waipu (the landing site of Scottish immigrants) for the 
annual Highland Games - equipped for heavy weather.  The day was 
both sunny and windy, leaving us overdressed and in danger of heat 
exhaustion !

But twas worthwhile - all the Scots genes tingled.
