Welcome! This is a periodic post about how the Post-Polio
Internet resources are organized, and about how to access the
information that's available.
There is an excellent reference area maintained by Tom Dempsey that
can be accessed via WWW at:
http://www.eskimo.com/~dempt/polio.html
Information can be retrieved via ftp from:
ftp.eskimo.com /u/d/dempt/polio
or ftp://ftp.eskimo.com/u/d/dempt/polio
There is a newsgroup named alt.support.post-polio. You can subscribe
to this like any other newsgroup. The charter for the newsgroup is
available at the above WWW site.
There is an active mailing list listserv that can be joined by
sending an e-mail to listserv@sjuvm.stjohns.edu with a blank subject
line and
sub Polio yourfirstname yourlastname
in the body of the message. Or use the St. John's Subscription Genie
at: http://foghorn.stjohns.edu/listmenu.qry?function=form
To get to the Polio List, select "Medical" then "Polio."
The mailing list and newsgroup are linked so that much of the same
information is available on either. Specifically, all of the posts
from the mailing list appear on the newsgroup. Some of the posts to
the newsgroup may not appear on the mailing list, depending on how
parameters on the mailing list are set. There is currently a limit
of 250 lines on posts sent to the mailing list. If you have access
to both the mailing list and newsgroup, one scenario is to set your
list access to nomail, post to the mailing list, and read the posts
from the newsgroup.
The mailing list has an archive facility if you'd like to look at
previous postings. There is also an online archive of previous postings
to the mailinglist/newsgroup maintained by Ron Stone:
For web browsers wanting to lock on to the Polio folder:

For Gopher burrowers wanting to lock on to the Polio folder:

There is an IRC chat session on Wednesday nights from 6-8pm PST. To
connect, you use an IRC program and type: /join #polio
