Are you using the compile macro supplied by Semware to invoke your
compiler?????

Subject: [TSEPro] compiler/editor interface
I have the following problem, which many of you must have solved.
I am running TSE-Pro v4.00 on a Windows 2K machine. After
editing a source file, I want to invoke a compiler to compile it.
(In my case it is Tex, for typesetting, but the problem seems to
be indendent of the particular compiler.) If I invoke (via
binding a macro to some key)
DOS(compiler name)
(with compiler and name calculated appropriately) compiling goes
as desired. But there are two problems:
1. The process of opening up a console to run the DOS command
causes the screen to first go black, with a flicker and a
jerk, then the command runs. This is unpleasant and hard on
the eyes.
2. As soon as the DOS command finishes, control is returned to
the editor. There is no opportunity to examine the output of
the compiler.
I have another editor (WinEdt) that I use for Tex files because
it avoids both of these problems and is much more pleasant to use
when frequent compiling is needed. In general, it is an inferior
editor and I would prefer not to use it. So I would like to find
a way to have a smoother interface between a compiler and TSE.
WinEdt displays the results of compiling without any major
transition. The screen simply becomes light gray all over and
the output of the compiler appears smoothly on the screen, ending
with a "Press any key to continue".
Sammy sent me a macro NewDos.s, which is supposed to allow the
console to keep control until explicitly released. But it
doesn't appear to work with W2K and isn't designed to fix the
unpleasant jerky transition to a black screen.
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
John Frampton
