                      AB 23 ONE VOTE SHORT 
                                 
    The measures fails 40-30, but the battle is not yet over!
                                 
     After hours of debate yesterday, Assembly Bill 23, which
seeks to replace the current semi-auto gun ban with one that is
considerably worse, was defeated by one vote in the Assembly. 
Our work is not yet done though! The bill could be reconsidered
as early as Thursday, April 16, and the bill's sponsor,
Assemblyman Don Perata, is scrambling to get the 41 votes
necessary for passage.
     Not only is Assembly Bill 23 even more far-reaching and
restrictive than California's present law, but it even goes
further than the federal gun ban!   This legislation targets the
only people who comply with gun laws -- law-abiding citizens who
go out of their way to remain law-abiding.
     We still need your help! Please check the roll call below to
see how your Assembly Member voted.  If your Assembly Member
voted "NO" or did not vote, please call and let them know that
you appreciate their position and encourage them to continue
their opposition or to abstain from voting.
