Dear Greg, Jim, and all:

thank you for your interest in the "Hosts" file blocking of
unwantend websites.

Allow me to add a little bit more information on the subject:

- all changes to the "Hosts" file should be effective
immediately after editing. You can try this by pinging any
newly entered entry - a TCP/IP connection is required, or ping
will open one.

 An entry like
127.0.0.1 www.throwbannersatyou.com
should result in this IP address being returned by
"ping www.throwbannersatyou.com"

- also, for blocking purposes, there can be several domain
names in each line e.g. 127.0.0.1 adimg.com.com adlog.com.com

Adlog.com.com will be found, but only the first entry in the
line is actually used, e.g. by ping. Still, the effect is the
same, adlog.com.com will be resolved to 127.0.0.1.

All entries in the line are treated identically. That could
help reduce the length of the Hosts file, and the typing.

- More information and ready-to-use Hosts file are available at
