subject: Disadvantage of being a s

-> DN> However, I have to strongly disagree about the 78-79 team being
-> DN> worst ever. Their record, for starters wasn't nearly as bad.
-> DN> current team has no talent whatsoever, outside of Antoine Walke
->
->I think that goes way out of bounds. Walker certainly isn't the
->only talent on the Celtics. To say that he is would be an insult
->to guys like Williams and Wesley, who are better than you
->obviously know.
Don't tell me I don't know about those guys, I follow the Celtics closely.
Wesley is a good guard who can steal and is among lead leaders in assists.
Williams is a small forward who tends to have good shooting nights (8-12,
9-13) and has some very good offensive nights because of it. Fairly
accurate description, wouldn't you say?
But they're not going to turn this team around, no matter who's coaching.
They could contribute, but they should be coming off the bench, not as
starters.. (although you could make a case for Wesley starting)
->With the right coach, this
->team could be a lot better. Not playoff contending better but good
->enough to be "one player away from the playoffs" better, unlike
->Philly, which needs a "ton of players and coach" enema to be
->playoff contenders.
I have completely the opposite opinion. With the right coach, this team
could aspire to such heights as the 25 win plateu. THERE IS NO CENTER, and
with Dino Radja injured, as always seems to be the case, there is little
power up front period. They're fairly competitive, but not stunningly so,
at the guard positions.. there's really not much more to say
I won't pretend to know much about the Philly's plight, because I don't
follow them too closely, but I will say that when you combine Stackhouse and
Iverson you get more talent than about 3/4 of the Celtics team put together..
They've got problems over there too, though.
-> DN> No-one on their team has a clue how to play defense.
->
->And you think that the 77-78 team (113.3 ppg) could?
Scoring was a lot higher back then. 113.3 ppg was bad, but it wasn't the
league's worst. The Celtic's, this year, are easily the worst defensive
team in the league, even worse than my Grizzlies, which is saying something.
-> DN> Dino Radja has been "sidelined" with a number of suspicious
-> DN> injuries.. if you ask me, he's got a bad case of
-> DN> don't-want-to-play-for-this-crappy-coach-itis..
->
->Radja's "series" of injuries was diagnosed as season ending when
->*it* occured.
What about last season? What was he injured with then? The ariticle I read
in the paper sounded awfully suspicious.. sounded like he had some kind of
psychological problem.
->Despite
->the limited ability of some of the guys that are still out on the
->court, they DON'T want to lose and they work their butts off every
->night.
That's really not the point. They find ways to lose every night and that
makes them the worst team in Celtics history. No other team has lost so
much, not by a longshot. How hard they try is important in some ways, but
not when deciding which team is the worst, talent and record-wise.
->You don't like->Szabo and Conlon -- I'll take both of them over Marvin
Barnes and
->Curtis Rowe any day of the week. They, at least, try to play well
->for a losing team; Barnes and Rowe weren't worth the space on the
->end of the bench.
I would take a pair of shoelaces and a new basketball over Szabo and Conlon
any day of the year. So they try.. so what?? They simply shouldn't be in
the NBA. Physically, they don't match up to their opposition, and they have
no basketball sense whatsoever. You will never ever succeed with guys like
them getting minutes, and Pervis Ellison wasn't much better before he
dropped a table on his toe. We are talking sad-sack here.
->This bunch has as much
->talent AND an even better attitude for the Duncan Era. If Carr is
->the coach next year, it won't show but if they turn it over to
->D.J. or a veteran coach, you'll see a much better team next year.
I also would like to see a new coach next year (who wouldn't???), and if
they get Duncan and another solid rookie, they probably will improve quite a
bit next year. But if we're talking about *this* year, they are bad bad
BAD, and should be recognized as such.
I like the way the players are keeping upbeat though.. I heard that Wesley
and Day were over at Rick Fox's house playing poker, and that Rick left the
room. When he got back, they were gone.. when he went to go to bed later
that night, he found that they had poured salad dressing in his bed :)
L8r on on a road trip, Wesley stapled Fox's sheets to the bed while he was
sleeping :) :)
