It doesn't to me.  It indicates to me that they wanted to improve their 
bench, particularly at the 4th OF spot.  I believe they'll try very hard to 
re-sign Lofton, though only after Maddux and Glavine are under wraps (if 
possible).  He is only 28, I believe, and probably the best leadoff hitter in 
the game and a very good defensive outfielder.
