Thanks to the help of various people, I now have TSE happily
cooperating with the Tex compiler. Now comes the problem of
cooperation with the viewer (Windvi), which translates the
results of the Tex compilation into screen or printer readable
format. The standard sequence is an edit -> compile -> view
loop.
After compilation, I execute (via binding to a key)
DOS("previewer filename", _DONT_PROMPT_ + _RUN_DETACHED_ )
The viewer is called and works perfectly. On the Windows bar, I
can see that a DOS console is now running AND the previewer is
running. If I switch back to the editor, it is locked. If I
then switch to the console (which shows a blank screen) and close
it, and go back to the editor, it is now unlocked and editing can
proceed --- without closing the previewer (which is suitably
detached). If I then compile again, and switch to the previewer
window, the new compilation is displayed. The previewer
recognizes that the source file has changed and rereads it. I
can now happily go through the edit-compile-preview cycle until I
get things right. There is no need to load the previewer in each
cycle.
The only problem is the awkward business of getting rid of the
do-nothing console that that the editor is attached to on the
first cycle. There must be a way to avoid this. I hope someone
can tell me how!
Thanks,
John Frampton
