Replying to a message of VERN HUMPHREY to BOB ACKLEY: JS>>> Agreed. When I go hunting I can go the entire hunting trip JS>>> without firing a single shot. It all depends on if I have a shot and JS>>> more importantly what/who is near the area in which I would be JS>>> aiming. I don't remember the last time a I had to shoot twice. BA>> You should come down here and give some pointers to the poachers that BA>> infest my immediate area. I heard some idiot fire at least seven BA>> shots within a on minute time frame. IMO one should be able to kill BA>> a deer with one, at most shots. About two weeks ago I watched some BA>> out-of-area poacher kill a deer - he had her trapped in a harvested BA>> cornfield with no cover and was using a high-powered rifle rather BA>> than a shotgun (in the shotgun season). After he killed her, h cut BA>> off her head and left the rest in a ditch. VH> A pair of good binoculars (to get his license number) and a phone call VH> ought to take care of that. The problem is that by the time the law or game warden could get out here the poacher(s) would be gone. I have a pair of binoculars, but the magnification isn't enough to make a license readable at something over a half mile - especially if the vehicle is behind trees or bushes from where I am or if the plate is obscured (as this guy's was) by mud and snow. VH> I report poachers, and patrol my own land (and a neighbor's) during season. --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 14/300 34/999 53/558 90/1 106/1 120/228 123/500 132/500 134/10 SEEN-BY: 140/1 222/2 226/0 249/303 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 SEEN-BY: 280/1027 320/119 393/68 633/260 262 267 712/848 800/432 2222/700 SEEN-BY: 2320/100 105 200 2905/0 @PATH: 300/3 14/5 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
