I haven't been keeping up with the magazines...

Speaking of magazines, when I mentioned to a gun store clerk needing some
hollowpoint because I'd been carrying the same too long, he said something
about needing to relax the springs in the magazine. Since I've four for
the Taurus, I guess I can rotate them (and yes, it's been a while). I
also took notice that the two for the Makarov were both fully loaded and
had been that way for some time. So I dealt with that.

How important is this?

The Makarov magazines also came apart real easy, the bottom plate has a
hole in it and pushing something in there to disengage the dimple on the
bit inside allowed me to slide it off. I was surprised to see that the
spring was half again as long as the mag when I got it out of there.

Also took the time to clean up in there, I noticed a bit of
"stuff" on the one spring out of the two, and used swabs wet
with a bit of bore cleaner and was amazed at the amount of junk that came
out of there.

I need to look at the Taurus mags and see if they also come apart easily --
somehow I don't think so.
