Jefferson Whitehead said in a message to Lawrence Garvin:
JW> The only SK book I really enjoyed reading was "Cujo."
Hmmm... not exactly a resounding review.... Is that an indictment on Stephen
King's writing, or just your reading preferences?
JW> Also the short story, I believe was entitled "The Shawshank
JW> Redemption" or maybe that was the title of the movie -I am not
JW> sure. Or it might have been entitled with the name of "Rita
JW> Hayworth" - about the escaped prisoners from the Maine jail - not
JW> sure.
The title of the story was "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" contained
in the collection _Different Seasons_. The screenplay was retitled "The
Shawshank Redemption".
JW> Also did SK write that short story made into a move entitled
JW> "Stand by Me?" About the kids finding a body. I liked that one.
This one I don't know about.
JW> I do not care for the supernatural stories - I think, for the
JW> most part, they are silly.
Aha... that would explain your predeliction for not enjoying King's writing.
JW> I think when SK writes "straight" stories he is a fine author;
JW> otherwise, his fervent imagination goes wild.
But isn't that the point?
JW> Oh -one other; did he write that story with Kathy Bates and James
JW> Cahn- about the arthur stranded at the house and held captive?
Yes. The novel was _Misery_.
JW> I did enjoy that one. These thoughts eminate from a 71 year old;
JW> I guess I am to old to appreciate the "outer limits."
:)
JW> If you reply, please do not be too harsh on me. Thanks:)
Hopefully, I wasn't. :)
