Replying to a message of Jeff Smith to Bob Ackley:

BA>> You should come down here and give some pointers to the poachers that
BA>> infest my immediate area. I heard some idiot fire at least seven
BA>> shots within a one minute time frame. IMO one should be able to
BA>> kill a deer with one, at most two shots. About two weeks ago I
BA>> watched some out-of-area poacher kill a deer - he had her trapped in
BA>> a harvested cornfield with no cover and was using a high-powered
BA>> rifle rather than a shotgun (in the shotgun season). After he
BA>> killed her, he cut off her head and left the rest in a ditch.

JS> A couple years ago I was sitting up in my tree stand watching
JS> this guy hunter who ran a cross a little fawn. They wer about 400
JS> yards away from me at the time. He emptied his rifle into the little
JS> dear and the proceeded to empty his handgun too. Needless to say
JS> there wasn't much left to worry about.

JS> Another thing that irks me is seeing other hunters who are so
JS> oblivious to their surroundings and who is near them. And being only
JS> concerned about themselves will park their butt's right in the area
 JS> that others are wathing.

There were a couple of them driving their pickups in the field a bit over 1/2 mile
east of me on the afternoon of the 31st. Dunno if they found anything, there is a
small herd of deer that hangs out in that area. They left that field and moved west
v-e-r-y slowly ("hunting" from the road, which is a no-no),
crossed my street about
1/4 mile south of me and continued west. I'd bet good money that none of them had
bothered to get the landowner's permission to be hunting on the land; and it's even
money that none of them had deer tags. I *really* wish a game warden was nearby
when these creeps show up.
