Those fields work just as well for updating the nodelist as they do for
updating SQL..  a nodediff would be in the same format as the nodelist,
except unchanged nodes are not listed, and changed nodes have one of the
above attributes.

It would also allow the nodelist to be changed (eg. merge local pointlists
or multiple network nodelists into one master nodelist), without causing
diffs to fail.  Text processors like diff/patch require the source file be
exactly the same as the copy used to generate the diff - but XML doesn't
give a damn what order it's in, and neither do mailers...
