I suppose I could.  But I haven't fired a handgun since 1971 and I'd probably
be more of a danger to myself than to the crook.  AFAIK there aren't any ranges
around here to practice on, and my acreage isn't really big enough to do it at home.
Also, acquiring (legally) a gun of any sort in Iowa is a PITA; you can buy them at
various auctions, but the transaction has to be completed through a (state) licensed
firearms dealer, you don't get immediate possession and there's a significant fee
involved.
