--------------------------------------------------------------------------
                     SATELLITE TV CONFERENCE POLICY
Moderator TVRO Echo: Dave Daniel 1:300/19
                               2/23/98
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
 1) PURPOSE:
The purpose of the TVRO Echo is to provide a forum for the
satellite dish owners and communications hobbyists interested
in cable tv (CATV), direct broadcast satellite (DBS), wireless cable
(MMDS), and the legal and social issues involved with satellite
television signal encryption. Technical and political discussions
are encouraged.
 2) ACCESS:
The TVRO Conference is a Fidonet Echo which is available to
any BBS which can receive echoes from the Fidonet Backbone.
Any BBS that receives Fido echos can receive the TVRO Echo. A
BBS user can ask the BBS sysop to request the TVRO Echo from his hub
or host.
 3) USER NAMES:
Aliases are not permitted as a user's sole ID. Some BBS's
allow aliases ('handles'). We discourage this. If a user has access
to the TVRO Echo and has an alias, you MUST post your REAL NAME
within the body of any message you post on the echo, preferably near
the end. Aliases must not be offensive/obscene names.
 4) MESSAGE CONSTRUCTION:
        a) High IBM ASCII characters are not allowed.
        b) Use the lower case keys when you post. When you post
using all caps, it is like you are SHOUTING!
        c) The official language of the TVRO Echo is English.
 5) MESSAGE CONTENT:
        a) Excessive profanity is rude. Keep your swearing to a
            minimum.
        b) Private messages are not allowed. Take it to netmail.
        c) No personal attacks are permitted.
        d) Postings of non-commercial or commercial advertisements
to sell equipment may be posted at the frequency of no
more than once every three weeks. Responses to such
postings should go directly to Netmail unless they
contain information needed by other echo readers.
Ads placed by for-profit companies/dealers are allowed
only if the echo user posting the ad(s) is an active
TVRO Echo user and if the ad is in good taste. Ads by
for-profit companies/dealers must be ads that serve the
needs of the satellite dish community. Echo users that
post ads and do not contribute to the echo in any other
way will be considered to be involved in annoying
            behavior.
The final decision as to whether an ad is
appropriate for the TVRO Echo is a decision made by the
            moderator.
        e) Signal piracy discussions are allowed.
 6) VIOLATION OF THE RULES:
If another person has violated the rules or made some
inappropriate comment, refrain from responding IN the echo. We don't
need several people responding to one violation, causing a lot of
unnecessary messages. It is the Moderator's job to deal with this,
and it will frequently be done behind the scenes.
 7) ANNOYING BEHAVIOR:
Annoying behavior shall not be allowed.
 8) COMPLAINTS & CRITICISMS:
Complaints and criticisms (both good and bad) are Off-Topic
in the conference and will not be tolerated. You can Netmail them to
the Moderator.
Complaints and criticisms are also expected to contain
suggested ways to correct the situation. This also applies to
suggested amendments to these rules. Proposed amendments are
off-topic in the echo. Ask your local Sysop for more information
about sending Netmail to me.
 9) AUTHORITY:
The Moderator has the sole authority to determine who is,
and who is not violating echo rules.
[ End of TVRO Echo Rules]
Dave
