I think that goes way out of bounds. Walker certainly isn't the only talent
on the Celtics. To say that he is would be an insult to guys like Williams
and Wesley, who are better than you obviously know. With the right coach,
this team could be a lot better. Not playoff contending better but good
enough to be "one player away from the playoffs" better, unlike Philly, which
needs a "ton of players and coach" enema to be playoff contenders. The 78-79
team had its best team (and a good core to start with when Bird arrived) near
the end of the season but in the beginning, they were a bunch of bad news
players just like Marvin Barnes (They were 2-12 when the ax finally fell on
Sanders. After 14 games, this year's Celtics were 4-10 and they were two
shots away from being 6-8. That 78-79 bunch didn't play as well as their 2-12
record indicated). This group is even trying to win when their fans are
hoping for them to lose. They're out their working their butts off, despite
all the things that have happened.
DN> No-one on their team has a clue how to play defense.
And you think that the 77-78 team (113.3 ppg) could?
DN> Dino Radja has been "sidelined" with a number of suspicious

Radja's "series" of injuries was diagnosed as season ending when *it*
cured.
DN> This team is bad, very very bad. Duncan would be a huge help, but
DN> they'd better get someone good with that Mavericks pick as well, or it

This team isn't nearly as bad as you make them out to be. Injuries and a boob
for a coach make them seem bad but they're a better starting bunch for a
player like Duncan than can be expected for a team with their record. Despite
the limited ability of some of the guys that are still out on the court, they
DON'T want to lose and they work their butts off every night. You don't like
Szabo and Conlon -- I'll take both of them over Marvin Barnes and Curtis Rowe
any day of the week. They, at least, try to play well for a losing team;
Barnes and Rowe weren't worth the space on the end of the bench.
The 77-78 team HAD players that were willing to give their best but some of
them came later in the season. The bunch that ended the season had some
talent that could be culled by the Celtics for the Bird Era. This bunch has
as much talent AND an even better attitude for the Duncan Era. If Carr is the
coach next year, it won't show but if they turn it over to D.J. or a veteran
coach, you'll see a much better team next year.
