Five might be too young to take to the range, but, IMO, it's not too early
to teach proper firearm safety.

I've heard some can start at age five (few and far between), but 8 or 9
seems a good time to start.

If for no other reason, they have to be physically able to control the
firearm well enough to make use of it.
