Morse code while going out...is still nice to know. Railway
familys at picnics have morse code contests, even while not being
in Ham Radio.

You can also use your computer for packet... 2meters VHF and there
is also some on hf.
Repeaters are okay, but wait until you start getting one going.
Maybe might want to just volunteer to maintain one first before
getting your feet wet.
SM> I think I am still "scarred" by the demise of OS/2, eh?
Anyroad, I'm

PH> Indeed. I've stopped really paying attention to the latest inovations
PH> in hardware. Instead, I'm concentrating on software, mostly servers,
PH> and content. I've been working on an interactive novel, using wiki
PH> technology hosted off my web server. I do find some of the toys
PH> interesting, however -- digital cameras, ipods, external HDD. Much more
PH> interesting than processor specs, and much more real-life useable.
PH> Hey, another question on the origin line question... does your gateway
PH> strip everything including the tearline, or just the origin line? I
PH> could add some of my origin line wit to the tagline library, or the
PH> tearline. It's been a while since I did fido coding, so don't expect
PH> some nifty tool to do auto-origin duplication.
PH> ... Law of Research: Enough research will tend to support your theory.
