I just created one the other day as a matter of fact, not on purpose
really but as a result of a normal computer activity. When Sammy announced
the new newsgroup, I went to it in ZOC, the terminal program I use, and
captured my session to a text file. Everything returned by the news server
had CRLF line ends as this is the spec for NNTP, but commands that I
entered myself all had single CR line ends, simply because I typed the
command and pressed enter and that's how it was captured.
I've also seen it happen on files that get passed back and forth between
Unix and DOS systems. Generally one would run such files through a script
or program to normalize all the line ends, but it doesn't always happen.
These aren't circumstances that people would run into commonly, but just
some examples to show that it does happen.
