Speaking as a fellow heart patient about to undergo mitral valve surgery
and perhaps double bypass surgery, I would say that a second opinion in
your mother's case would be extremely warranted.
I'm having my surgery for two reasons. The first is if I don't, my
heart will continue to enlarge and I will die. The second reason is
that over the past month or so, I've become more symptomatic and it's
reduced my quality of life to a degree that I am willing to undergo the
trauma of open heart surgery in an attempt to feel better in the long
run.
I'm sorry to hear that it would take so long to get a second opinion.
But I do feel that your mother's time with the other children would
definitely be much better if she were feeling bette herself!
Good luck to you and your mother!
