Messages conferences should be capabile of being gated to/from usenet, fidonet or TFNet, at a minium. I believe that the RFC-822 gateway should be retained, with enhancements to support styled text in the formats supported by the system, but encoded using multi=part mime-encoding, so that systems that can use the formatting info through whatever means they have available will receive it. I realize this must be balanced by the increase in message file size, and ability of legacy systems to be able to filter the peices they cannot use.. The message section back end will probably be a combination of Perl and a MySQL database. The message section front end will support input,. display and storage of message formatted in plain text, ANSI text, richtext, HTML, and styled text compatible with the connecting client. What the user sees will be driven both by his connection method, as will as by his personal preferences. The file section protocols be FTP pr x/y/zmodem with resume for Internect connecting clients, JAVA/HTTP/FTP for web based clients and X/Y/ZMODEM (and perhaps TF/User file protocol) for dial-up clients. Drag and drop file transfers of files, and folders in forground or background with resumption of aborted transfers are a must have. Realtime multi-user public/private chat with styled text as noted above within the limits of the connecting clients should supported. I think this should be extended to providing chat connections between "neo-TF" systems too. Chat should support speech too, on Macs with PlainTalk. I am not certain of how easy it is to do any of this yet, because I want it to retain interoperability with legacy TF clients, and dial-up capability too. The Mac OS X client will be a new application which re-creates the look and feel of the Mac OSX desktop, in the same sprit as the legacy TF clients did. I think the customized settings files should be much easier to create than those of the old client, but all of the features should be retained. --- Daniel O'Leary, Admin/WebMaster KloneZone - A TeleFinder 5.7 BBS Voice=> 817-367-2558 Dial-In=> 817-367-2517 Fidonet=> 1:130/1015 --- MacKennel 2.6.Y2K* Origin: KloneZone* Ft Worth, TX * SYSTEM7-MAC_TELEFINDER (1:130/1015.0) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 130/1015 803 106/1 2000 633/267 |
