Hello All!
I've been hearing/reading for months and months about all the people that
didn't like Gerald's Game.
Two nights ago, I finished reading Gerald's Game, and while I'll grant that
it deals with topics that many would probably prefer to ignore than deal
with, I didn't find the book particularly tasteless or so bizarre as to
warrant banishment.
In fact, I found the writing style to be rather unique, especially the final
chapters as he took us out of third person and into first person to finish
the story.
I also didn't find the book particularly terrorizing, as many of his have
done, although I did find it somewhat thought provoking both as to what I
would do under related circumstances (although to a certain extent, it's hard
for a male to empathize with the role of Jessie) as well as the whole "edge
of insanity" scenario when one is an unwilling victim of imprisonment.
I'm curious as to what others found to be the reasons for not liking the
book. No doubt it's certainly not his worst -- I still reserve that honor for
Delores Claiborne.
