I had Polio in '53 and was completely paralyzed at first. I wa in an iron
ung
full time. I regained my legs, left hand and 25% breathing. Still have to
sleep in the iron lung at night. Bulbar was a type of Polio that affected
onlyy
the brain stem area, leaving heartbeat and blood pressure at its mercy. Most
of
the bulbars didn't survive as I understood it. The other common Polio
ffected
the neurons coming from the spinal cord. I sometimes resulted in the
aralysis
of the chest area, thus requiring ventilation, but it didn't involve the
rain
stem. I've heard of the third strain, but don't know what it is.
