Hi All,
Helped a fellow install his home theatre stuff and have some strange
things happening.
New 36 inch JVC TV
New Technics receiver with something called Dolby 3 and Dolby Surround.
Paradigm speakers (4 small, one centre, one powered subwoofer) system
As things were moving from west wall to north wall. Problem was, the
IRD satalite receiver had to remain stationary. (Dual C/Ku type)
Due to the placement change, there had to be long 25' runs of cable,
audio L/R and a Coax (for video out).
The video from the IRD is fead into the VCR video in jacks. The audio
to the audio L/R jacks. The cable company's cable is going to the 75
ohm ant connector on the VCR.
The VCR then feeds the TV with it's line video out and cable out. The
audio is fed to the stereo receiver. The receiver does have
video/audio switching also, plus it's own "video" menu, so that went to
the second video imputs on the TV.
That second video (from the stereo receiver's menu) looks good. The
IRD however has this strange "light-bar" that slowly travels up the TV
screen, starting at the bottom. Cable TV looks as good as it can :-),
tapes look good. If the TV is switched from the preferred line-in to
coax (ch 3) the stereo receiver's menu still looks good (considering
the bump up to ch 3), but the IRD still has the line, but it's MUCH
fainter.
Thinking of ground loops, I dissconected the cable company. Line still
there. Plowed the IRD directly into the TV. Still got the line.
However, the line wasn't there with shorter cables with the previous
JVC TV (31" I think).
What's causing the line?
The audio hum is another matter, but lets get the creases out of the
video first. :-)
