Al Salvi, Republican Sellout, is running for Secretary of State
in Illinois.
The Secretary of State in Illinois is, by tradition, the next
step to Governor.
The primary is Tuesday, March 17, 1998.
Try to locate regional coordinators throughout the state as well
as using the numbers below.  Contacting them repeatedly to voice
your concerns could get the attention of the top brass at
Salvi HQ.
Chris Pinnick is the Salvi Campaign scheduler.   His pager is
1-888-584-6761. Tell Al Salvi, who has cynically re-invented
himself, that supporting gun control is bad policy and bad
politics.  Tell him that he is NOW wrong on guns.  Even if you
don't live in Illinois, it is important to let candidates who
sell out the rights of gun owners know that you have a very
long memory.
In 1996 Al Salvi:
*  signed a statement that he would vote to repeal the Brady law.
*  signed a statement that he'd vote to repeal the Clinton
   semi-auto gun ban.
*  said he opposed all tax-payer subsidies to anti-gun lobbyists.
*  actively sought the support of Gun Owners of America  members.
*  actively sought the support Gun Owners of America PVF.
Then he lost his statewide race for the U. S. Senate.  He had to
blame someone, and he couldn't blame his lousy campaign for the
general election.  So now he blames the "extreme" gun owners
whose support he sought to win the 1996 primary.  In spite of his
loss he out-polled Bob Dole statewide.  His defeat can't be
blamed on the gun issue. Rather it was his own gaffes and the
anti-gunners in the Republican establishment who wouldn't work
for him.
Now in 1998 Al Salvi is in Op-Eds in the Chicago Sun Times and on
television:
*  saying he supports the Brady law.
*  saying he supports Clinton-type semi-auto gun bans.
*  running TO BE a taxpayer subsidized anti-gun lobbyist.
*  saying he opposes concealed carry for personal self-defense.
*  attacking the very gun owners and groups whose support he
   sought in 1996.
Here's what you can do to show Al Salvi you disagree with his
betrayal:
1) Contact his campaign by Fax and phone between now and the
evening of Tuesday, March 17, 1998.  Your best efforts should
go to the main campaign numbers first.
2) Don't give up until you make repeated contact with him or
his staff.  Deliver your message of firm opposition to his
flip-flopping on the issues.
3) Ask for other contact numbers to deliver your concerns.
Keep calling until someone listens and Al Salvi apologizes
publicly.

Final note:  As Salvi's spin doctors work to divert attention from
his anti-gun stand by pointing to a TV debate on the Dick Kay Show,
they are not telling you that Salvi was pushing his own support
for unconstitutional gun control -- on the same show.  While Bob
Churchill defended his own legislative votes against semi-auto
bans, Al Salvi spent much of his time attacking pro-gun groups.
GOA has the tape.
What the spin doctors won't tell you is that Salvi's opponent:
*  voted against the semi-auto ban (HB 2260, 1989) and
   opposed it again (SB 1168, 1994).
*  voted to support concealed carry reform (HB 1157) in 1997.
*  worked to support preemption legislation protecting the right
   to carry reform from local anti-gun government interference.

I urge you to publicly apologize for your cynical and gratuitous
flip-flop on the rights of gun owners.  Politicians like you who
use issues and people to advance career ambitions are turning
off voters and ruining the political process in America.
Our Founding Fathers gave their lives, their fortunes and their
sacred honor to secure the right to keep and bear arms.  You
have disgraced their fine legacy.   I will continue to be
vigilant and I will let other concerned Americans know what you
are doing.
