subject: CDs/DVDs deteriorating

TL> No, they live inside, and humidity here is low much of the year.

I feel your pain!

I haven't explored my really old DVD's yet, but my commercial CD
collection seems to be unaffected by deterioration. Among the very
first CDs I bought was Roxy Music - Avalon in 1982. My copy is
manufactured in Germany. It has outlasted 3 CD players over the years.

The plan is to produce lossless copies of my collection to gain the convenience
of searching for songs and creating playlists.

The added benefit would be a sort of "backup".

Might be wise to consider the same conversion strategy for the DVDs that you
can still play?
