Whatever the source, the "security blanket" is now an integral part of
North American "culture".
Many people still talk about having some sort of symbolic "security
blanket" that gives them comfort.
...Meanwhile, governments now
habitually try to throw a security blanket over media coverage of
certain events. We're then left to guess whether those events are
really related to National Insecurity or just part of one more
mundane political scandal.
