Highlights
ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ
- The most exciting match touted as "Match of the Season" was held at
St. James Park where Kevin Keegan's Newcastle played his former club
Liverpool. Lots of great passes by both teams, especially from the
Reds where they are the master in the art of passing. Both team created
lots of opening, but Newcastle looks more dangerous in the goal mouth.
Les Ferdinand opened the scoring in only 3 minutes set up by Keith
Gillespie. Ian Rush equalised for Liverpool 8 minutes later. Liverpool
dominated more of the possession, stroking the ball around, opening up
the Newcastle's defence. Most of the second half proceedings belong to
Liverpool, but they were unlucky not to score. Skipper Ian Rush was
substituted with 15 minutes to go. Stan Collymore took his place, but
too, couldn't find the opening for Liverpool. Probably Roy Evans should
have retained Ian Rush coz he had been excellent during the game. In the
dying seconds, Steve Watson pounced on a loose ball which David James
couldn't hold it properly and sent it to the back of the net. Newcastle
thus had consolidated its position at the top of the table.
- The other top clash is at Highbury between Bruce Rioch's Arsenal and
Alex Ferguson's Manchester United. Dennis Bergkamp scored the only
(but not the one and only) goal of the match. Andy Cole had his goal
disallowed in the opening minutes. This Man Utd defeat still retains
its position in the table at second, but the gap between them and
  Newcastle had widen.
- Juninho's set up Flitroft goal in the first half, but was equalised
by Leeds through Brian Deane in the dying minutes of the first half.
Juninho played an excellent part in the match, mesmerising the Leeds
defenders with his dribbling and ball juggling skills. However, Leeds
came back strongly in the second half, which leaves Middlesbrough with
no chance of revival. Juninho was substituted in the 78th minute,
with the crowds cheering for his great performance.
- Manchester City claimed their first win of the season at Maine Road
over Bolton Wanderers with the one and only goal in the first half.
- Tottenham Hotspurs drew Newcastle last weekend. This weekend, they
defeated Coventry by 3 goals to 2, away to them. Spurs had recently
  been performing above expectations.
