PE> Has anyone had any experience with hemoturia (blood in urine) i
PE> hemophiliac? My 9 yr. old had a very bad strep infection (exudate on
PE> tonsils, headache, stomachache, but no fever and looked pretty well). H
PE> complained of lower back pain and a few days later, the whole toilet
PE> was red. I was surprised that the doctor at Children's only prescrib
PE> fluids. (and an antibiotic at my urging, since we had had several
PE> experiences with bleeding tonsils) Usually it takes a very good doct
PE> hold off on prescribing clotting factor until he discovers what migh
PE> causing symptoms in a child without hemophilia. I'm puzzled over how
PE> know whether or not he is bleeding more than a non-hemophiliac in th

PE> partly clearing so far.
The emergency room doctor is correct in prescribing fluid intake since
when a patient has any infection the body uses most of its resources to
fight the infection. Gatorade is a good idea since it is very tasty
without being upsetting to the stomach and electrolytes are restored if
they are depleted also.
I am surprised the physician didn't prescribe antibiotics especially in
light of a streptococcal infection.
I would strongly urge you to see the pediatrician to be sure a bladder
or kidney infection have not occured. There are medications that can
quickly clear up any of these types of infection.
Good luck!
