ML> MC> I have been to the Forney twice, most recently in 1990. JD Forney had
ML> MC> recently died and the museum was selling some of the surplus license
ML> MC> plates from his collection so I am honored to have a few Forney owned
ML> MC> Colorado plates in my collection. :>
ML>I wish I could have obtained a couple of those! But anyway, they have some
ML>interesting artifacts there, especially the German-made car with three wheel
ML>that requires you to run the engine BACKWARDS in order to back up!
ML>Or the unique car that can also be converted into an airplane... and so on..
ML>But I especially liked looking at the old turn-of-the-century horse-drawn
ML>carriages. Some of those were very elegant...
Let's see, what I remember liking the most, was the Big Boy, of course.
:> That was my first introduction to the behemoth. Wasn't there also a
50s car that was crushed so tightly that it could fit in a moderate size
moving box? I also remember a Pullman you were allowed to clime aboard.
Or maybe it was just a luxury streetcar? I'll have to revisit. When I
was last there, the building was in a state of rapid decay. You could
see the crumbling bricks near the roofline. I think that if the museum
can't afford the repairs, the city should step in since it was built in
1901 and is the former trolley electric station and thus has a great
deal of city history.
