The first one works ok with \ and non-ASCII characters:

   92 - 0000005C - '\'
  164 - 000000A4 - '¤'
  160 - 000000A0 - ' '
  130 - 00000082 - '‚'
  161 - 000000A1 - '¡'
  162 - 000000A2 - '¢'
  163 - 000000A3 - '£'
  168 - 000000A8 - '¨'
  173 - 000000AD - ''

Above, same characters with the second one. Note that it shows two lines for accented letters, first one is for the dead key (ï)

\:
a:092 h:5C c:\ code:DC cstate:0009 #1

¤:
a:-92 h:FFFFFFA4 c: code:C0 cstate:0000 #1

 :
a:000 h:00 c: code:DE cstate:0000 #1
a:-96 h:FFFFFFA0 c: code:41 cstate:0000 #1

‚:
a:000 h:00 c: code:DE cstate:0000 #1
a:-126 h:FFFFFF82 c: code:45 cstate:0000 #1

¡:
a:000 h:00 c: code:DE cstate:0000 #1
a:-95 h:FFFFFFA1 c: code:49 cstate:0000 #1

¢:
a:000 h:00 c: code:DE cstate:0000 #1
a:-94 h:FFFFFFA2 c: code:4F cstate:0000 #1

£:
a:000 h:00 c: code:DE cstate:0000 #1
a:-93 h:FFFFFFA3 c: code:55 cstate:0000 #1

¨:
a:-88 h:FFFFFFA8 c: code:DD cstate:0010 #1

:
a:-83 h:FFFFFFAD c: code:DD cstate:0000 #1

BTW on this second one the \ was recognized properly...

Carlos
