TC>DO>Ok, how about a SCCA mustang cobra? Lingenfelter Corvette? BMW M3
TC>DO>lightweight? there are plenty of cars out there, not necessarily
TC>DO>dealer-stock, that can run with a Ferrari. Won't get all the prestige of
TC>DO>owning a six-figure car or anything, but the performance is there.

TC>Performance is definately there. What is hard for me to believe is that
TC>everybody mentions the Cobra Mustang, but nobody mentions the Saleen
TC>Mustang. The 351 SC Saleen Mustang is a pretty hot runner, and Saleen
TC>has an SR Wide Body (ala Viper, but it'll smoke the Viper) currently in
TC>production. They've already ran tests on it, 1/4's around 11 seconds,
TC>top end around 180ish, and it'll outhandle just about anything you can
TC>buy to put on the steet. Price estimation will be around $100 grand.
TC>Well under most Ferraris.. But as far as overall performance and
TC>handling... it will run with a Ferrari, if not outright smoke it. In
TC>quickness and handling.

There are always little branches of the big 3 that are geared toward
high performance that are battling it out. I don't know if Shelby is
still doing anything or not, but what about the Callaway Corvettes?
It seems like all the rage is about the top-of-the-line production cars
and no one really knows (except the enthusiasts, gearheads, etc) about
the "helpers." If anyone has any info on either the whole Callaway
thing (I really don't know too much about it) or Shelby, please post it
here...it'd make for interesting reading.
