i've found that this means new versions of any programs that were compiled
statically that include the old time_t code...

programs that were compiled dynamically will be using the system's time_t
code and updating libc takes care of that... updating libc requires a few
utils and new timezone tables as well as a recompilation of the libc
libraries which may lead to other code also needing to be recompiled...

not something for the uninitiated or those seeking a quick and easy fix
like i am/was for that older box... as it is, i decided to just leave it be
and live with the one hour difference until the "normal" DST
change went into effect... that box is slated for a major upgrade before
too long, anyway...
