Yup.

I had a devil of a time on windows a while back with basically the same
thing i.e. it would not let me (re)create an eth0 i.e. it kept creating
"Local Area Connection 2", 3, 4 etc & no way to get back to
just "Local Area Connection".

I can't remember what the fix was but it involved even more digging &
tweaking & what have you.
