Glenn,

These open source guys are not the virile conquerors of the world that they
imagine themselves to be.

Trying to make a Linux box run dual displays rotated to portrait mode is a
research project. If I was using Windows I'd have been done in less than an
hour.

I had to download an Austrian guy's patched version of Matrox's driver to
even get this far. Though he says on his site that Matrox has accepted
patches from him before and put those patches into their source. So at
least the Open Source model is helping to partially compensate for the lack
of big time commercial motivation to make things
work correctly. But the compensation is only partial.

I'm only willing to put up with this because I'm starting to modify a Linux
driver in my day job. I want to know a lot about Linux configuration and
internals.
