I use to run a BBS using PCBoard software. Every now and then an upgrade
or service release was made available. Basically, we were required to
furnish our registered name and serial number in order to obtain the
download. A third piece of info was required in order to open the
compressed file... password.

I like this idea in theory. But how would I distribute the
password to users?

Perhaps I'll come up with a special format, that can only be
decoded by a macro, and that macro only works with the
non-test-drive version.
