If you got lots of money, you probably could do worse than 
Tierra's East West Herb course. Like all businesses, the idea is 
to make the most profit at the least cost. If he is famous, part
of the cost will be for the perceived prestige he confers. I once 
had a representative of Robert Mondavi Wine tell me that Bob's 
name on the label was worth $5/btl. Depends whether you want the 
package or the contents.

You would get the most bang for your buck though, if you 
first built up a back ground with herbs and put a finer point on 
the questions that you want to ask. Is there a local herbalist 
that you could donate time to in exchange for information, or an 
herbal store where you could work part time for the experience?

In the beginning you should get an overview of herbs and their 
properties, and focus on herbs that may benefit you (some ailment,
chronic or temporary, like high blood pressure, winter colds, 
insomnia, etc.) and test their efficacy.

Personally, I have found Prunella vulgaris  to be very effective 
in lowering my blood pressure and reducing the amount of 
allopathic medication that I need to control it. Medicine doesn't 
have to come in plastic wrap.
