Greetings Sharon!
Friday, February 7, 1997 Sharon Dibble was overheard whispering to Ray
Gingo about diet pill
SD> Yeppers, that's it! My doctor wants me to decide if I want to
SD> try this as he says it has some dangerous side effects that could
SD> result in death in some people. I would like to know what the side
SD> effects are and the results of the studies done by the FDA. Any
SD> info would be appreciated.
The most serious side effect associated with this this class of
drugs is Primary Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH). Redux is
dexfenfluramine. There is a higher incidence of PPH when you take the
drug for more than 3 months. Survival rate for PPH is estimated to be 55% at
the end of 4 years. Signs and symptoms to watch for are shortness of
breath, chest pain, fainting and swelling of the lower extremities.
You should also be aware that this drug when tested in animals had a
higher brain concentration (10x) when compared too humans. Changes
in sertonin levels were observed. These changes were mostly reversed with
time.
The importance in humans........not known.
I am unaware of any additional testing by the FDA right now.
I'm a little leary of this med. It seems like this drug made it
through the FDA pretty quickly when compared to other drugs.
Kind regards,
