It's  the law out here in California, if there is more  than  one attendant  
at  the gas station, they must serve you  gas  at  the self-serve  price.   
What is really nice and above  the  call  of duty, is when they offer full 
service, oil check, tires, windows, etc., at the self-serve price.  I've had 
some, well at least one, gas  station attendant insist on giving me the full 
service.   My natural  inclination was to decline, but he kept asking  until  
I agreed.  Now, if they offer, I'll accept.  Take care.
