JH> I've got a full leg brace here now that I just can't wear. It makes me
JH> feel like I have a woden leg, and am gonna fall on my face........:)
JH> So I don't wear it! Like you I am slowly moving to the chair, but it
JH> ain't easy getting over the WC/Fright........:(
WK> I keep expecting to see Warren King jump into this thread. He gave up
WK> his braces some time ago and says he's much happier in the W/C. I'm
WK> not very good with change to begin with and this one is one of the
WK> hardest I've tried yet.
WK> Some sneaky way to get met to post! I think you wanted this in this
WK> area, rather than the one I found it. :-)
JH> pure Hell getting into in a W/C, yet they make no changes. Have you
JH> noticed in the last few years the service stations? Now you have
JH> to get out go into the stations (which are stores) etc... In my
JH> neighborhood there is just one left that has a little booth out in the
JH> center of the pumps.... It is easy to pay for gas, cigs, etc. So I
JH> give them my business......
WK> A lot of the convenience stores around here have drive through
WK> windows.
None in my area.....:( All are walk-in types.
Makes it a hassle to just pick up a loaf of bread or a gal. of milk.
Disgusting! I would drive across town for one with a drive-in window,
but none that I know of.
WK> I sometimes get my gas and then drive around to the window.
WK> I know that they are thinking I'm going to drive off without paying,
WK> but it serves them right.
Yeah I get some pretty good stares when I do that......Hihihi! I then
pull up close as I can, and go in and pay. Rough sometimes!
WK> Since Ardmore is a small town, we still have
WK> a few full service stations and that's where I usually go.
WK> Bob...
Only thing wrong with the full service (which are few & far between
here) is the prices they charge. Just returned from a trip to CA. I
found a few stations that gave me full service and gave me the
self-service price.... I appreciate people like that....:)
WK> This is one of the hardest problems to solve with using the
WK> wheelchair. I have had to just establish a good relationship at one
WK> station so that they would recognize my car and come out to give
WK> service. I remember going to 10 different stations one morning last
WK> winter when it was cold and rainy trying to get served! Flashed the
WK> HP hanging card and watched the attendants pretend the didn't see me.
Something should be done about a Low-life business like that!
I wonder if the ADA has had any one bring up "Gas Stations" Etc.?
WK> Ended up having to find one that at least had a roof
WK> over the pumps and get out and do it myself. Those islands
WK> make it very difficult. Had to punch the buttons using the end of
WK> the gas nozzle.
WK> Regards, Warren
I know the feeling!
Take care Warren.............
