I think Balboa is about the last vestige of "Old Coastal Califoria".
The Renezvous Ballroom used to be there before it burned down. There is 
a small ferris wheel with a great view of Newport Harbor and surrounding 
area. The part I like best is the pier and the sandy beaches where you 
can swim in the ocean without freezing you cojones off and going into 
hypothermia, like here in northern California. It was always a haven for 
Easter break and under age drinking ;-)
