I like seeing the tabs in the files I load into TSE.
Once I've observed them, I may do a search-and-replace on them.
With Expand Tabs set to OFF, the tabs look similar to this o .
Seeing the tabs tells me much
more about the file I have loaded than seeing
an arbitrary conversion of tabs into
some number of white space characters.
-From the TSE 2.5 help
Tab/Margin Options
------------------
_ Expand Tabs (Display Only) (ExpandTabs) Std: ON
Toggles ExpandTabs ON or OFF. This dictates whether the editor displays
tabs as the appropriate number of spaces, as determined by the value of
TabWidth. Set this option ON to have the editor interpret tab characters so
that the text is positioned on the screen according to the current TabWidth.
Set this option OFF to have the editor display each tab character on the
screen as the physical tab character itself (ASCII 9). Note, however, that
ExpandTabs has no effect on any line longer than 255 characters.
ExpandTabs affects only the screen display of tab characters; it does not
affect how tab characters are stored in the file itself. If ExpandTabs is
ON and the file is subsequently saved, the actual tab characters are stored
in the file, and NOT the spaces that displayed on the screen.

indentation and
