subject: Delta changes rules on `service animals` and `emotional support animals

Delta Air Lines will no longer allow service animals on flights longer than
eight hours from 18 December. Furthermore, so-called 'emotional support
animals' which are younger than four months are not allowed anymore on any
flight.

Delta says that it has taken this decision with a view to customer safety.
According to Delta, this also protects the rights of passengers who can not
travel without trained assistance dogs, such as disabled veterans.

In 2016 and 2017, Delta recorded a significant increase in the number of
incidents involving animals that passengers take on board under the guise
of 'emotional support'. In addition to pooping and peeing, there were also
biting incidents.

Earlier this year, USA airlines already took measures to regulate auxiliary
animals on board. In addition to dogs, passengers increasingly took less
obvious animals, such as snakes, reptiles, ferrets, rodents, spiders,
hedgehogs and birds on board.
