Passengers in Indonesia have refused to board a plane due to the presence
of a cargo of doerian. The fruit, which is popular in Asian countries, is
known for the stench.
 
The plane, which would fly from the Sumatran province of Bengkulu to
Jakarta, therefore left with an hour's delay. The passengers complained to
the cabin crew and threatened to enter the plane only when the doerian was
removed from the hold. The staff responded to that. In addition, some were
afraid that the plane would be too heavy because of the fruit.
 
The society, Indonesian Sriwijaya Air, has confirmed to the national
channel Kompas TV that it was about 2000 kilos of doerian. A spokesperson
for the company says that the stench was probably related to the warm
weather.
