A Bombardier DHC-8-200 from SafariLink did a runway excursion Friday during the landing on Kichwa Tembo Airstrip, after the aircraft collided with two wildebeest. The animals were on the runway when the plane tried to land. The aircraft, with registration 5Y-SLM, was en route from Nairobi to the airstrip at Maasai Mara, a famous Kenyan nature park, when the incident occurred. Due to the collision with the wildebeest, a wheel leg broke off the landing gear, causing the aircraft to land next to the runway. According to SafariLink, none of the passengers or crew were injured. The two wildebeest got off less well. --- D'Bridge 3.99* Origin: AVIATION ECHO HQ (2:292/854) SEEN-BY: 203/0 221/0 1 6 360 229/426 230/0 240/5832 280/464 5003 292/854 8125 SEEN-BY: 335/364 396/45 423/120 633/0 267 280 281 412 509 640/1321 1384 SEEN-BY: 712/848 770/1 801/188 @PATH: 292/854 280/464 221/1 640/1384 633/280 267 |
