For those who are interested in performing engine swaps on late model
cars the emissions laws vary from state to state.  Not too far back in
this forum someone mentioned that CA allows anything into anything as
long as they are same year and all emissions equipment goes in too.  The
state of WA is not quite as friendly in regards to '81 and newer
vehicles, they only allow swaps where the donor engine was actually
available (standard or optional) in the model year target vehicle.
However they will allow any engine package you want in '80 and earlier
cars IF you can get it to pass an emission test.
