subject: 64 Jeep Wagoneer ?

BL> I just ran accross a fellow with a 1964 Jeep Wagoneer that is
BL> willing to part with it. According to him, the only thing wrong is
BL> that the AutoTrans (the rig is a 4X) is beginning to slip and keeps
BL> dropping out of 'drive' into 2nd. It's his opinion that the
BL> vehicle would be worth $2500 in running condition, but I think he
BL> mentioned $1500 as is (with the tranny probs).
GC>What engine does it have? The StRaNgE OHC-6 that Jeep made? I have heard
GC>some horrible things about this engine, and that getting parts can be a
GC>problem. What is the body/interior like in it? If it has the OHC-6 it is
GC>probably something I would shy away from at that price.
Lots of parts available for that engine, especialy through military surplus
parts dealers, and at decent prices. Any part that is not as used by the
military is also available at the local parts store.
BL> Is this something I want to get interested in ?
GC>That depends, do you like searching for non-existant engine parts? You
GC>must like pain and suffering (otherwise you would not like having a /0
GC>after one of your node numbers :).
BL> Or was there an indemic problem with the trans of that
 BL> make/model/year ?
GC>I Think they used a Borg-Warner auto trans which for the most part are
 GC>fairly sturdy.
BL> Providing there are no other problems, what would a rebuilt
BL> trans for that rig cost me ?
GC>If you take the whole thing to a trans shop probably close to a grand
GC>(extra work because of 4 wheel drive), unless you go to AAMCO, then
 GC>double it.
There should be no extra work as this rig should have a transfer seperate
from the transmission by about 12-18".
