Hi Fall,
     In my case at least, the PPS didn't begin to affect me until after the 
time my LTD insurer had designated as the period during which they might 
reject the claim as a pre-existing condition.  I believe  each policy should 
state this time period, in order  for the insurer to prevail in such a 
situation.  Examine your policy.  If you don't have the policy, your 
personnel department or office administrator should be able to help with the 
information.    The length of time may vary considerably, and it is not 
necessarily a long  time.  It was 90 days in my case.  I hope this is  of
