 They have been doing that fro years. the most Serious attempt was the
recent drive by people Supporting the "Little LEO"(Low Earth Orbit)
satellite systems. They basically asked for ALL of the 2 Meter and 440
Ham Bands, Plus a lot of other spectrum.
 The Handwriting is on the wall though, DON'T invest much money in VHF
or UHF Ham gear because within 5 to 10 years it will be WORTHLESS!!.
BIG money Talks and those people are backed by some  VERY BIG Money!!
